Ying Shi
Ph.D. Candidate in Strategic Management
Smeal College of Business, The Pennsylvania State University
Welcome! I am a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Management and Organization at Penn State's Smeal College of Business, where I study strategic leadership from an upper echelons perspective. My research asks a central question: how do CEOs' values, identities, and personalities shape organizational actions and outcomes?
My dissertation, CEOs as Values Architects, examines how CEOs' values and identities affect their firms' value-oriented practices, from infusing corporate purpose to adopting (or abandoning) corporate diversity actions. I am on the academic job market for the 2026–27 cycle.
